Western Buddhism Into the 80’s

Tarthang Tulku arrived in the United States in 2501/1968. It was he who first Tibetan meditation center for Americans founded the Tibetan Nyingmapa Meditation Center in Berkeley, California, in the spring of 2502/1969 was organized.

Having Eyes to See

We begin our spiritual development to take us aside and get together again the right way. We reviewed many observations and conclusions contained in childhood and review our conclusions on the basis of new evidence.
 In a small Midwestern city, near the turn of the century, a boy named Robert grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. He wore hand-me-down. His parents could not afford a haircut. The other kids made fun of him. People whispered that his father was irresponsible and had many children.
 Robert was the shame of poverty and yet his father was very spiritual. One day, a revival came to town. His grandparents took him to the tent revival, where many people heard Jesus call personally. The energy in a revival is “contagious.” After a few people throw the ball rolling, the rest will join in. Sometimes it is a genuine vocation but sometimes it is just to not be left out.
 Back in the Renaissance, people receiving the call, but that nothing happened the night of Robert. Instead of going along with the crowd, Robert did not join the crowd of people who were presented for baptism, because he felt the call of Jesus, within it.
 This would be a matter of fact of history-except for one thing. On the way home, Robert, who really believed that the only real thing had happened to everyone else in the tent revival, came to the conclusion that Jesus had not called because he was not worthy.
 Robert did not check out his “thesis” with no more than most children and for the rest of his life, he felt rejected and embarrassed. Even Jesus did not want a poor child.
 There is a happy ending to this story. Robert grew up to be a popular and successful psychologist in La Mesa, California. He had a great professional and personal life, a very long and happy marriage. Robert was well to do and was respected in the community. He often spoke of the Great Unity (metaphysical) Church of San Diego. I’m not telling a story that has not said publicly many times. Robert went through a healing process to understand that as a boy had added 2 + 2 and gotten silly.
 As children, we put together the world the best you can. As adults, it is our gift to ourselves to return as an adult to some of our biggest decisions and connect the dots correctly again if necessary.
 I would like to give another example which is a little more sophisticated. It’s about how to be unconscious can prevent us see things clearly before our eyes.

 If you’re wondering what this has to do with spiritual development and see things clearly, let me continue.
 If not go through the process of awareness to smoking, this is an example of the 21st century. The same is happening with obesity. The same long, slow has begun. This time can be a part of it, awakening slowly to what is before your eyes.
